Why do we need to be decent?

Generally, Decency refers to the quality of conforming to standards of propriety and morality. It is the quality of being polite and respectable.

Decency is defined as actions that are moral, modest or socially acceptable. It is also known as; what basics are required for a good standard of living.

For instance; wearing a skirt that is long enough to cover your bottom is an example of decency or
A place to live and a car to drive are examples of decencies.
Over time, decency has referred to manners, but today decency is mainly a strong sense of right and wrong, and a high standard of honesty. When a criminal or dictator does horrible things, people assume they have no sense of decency. When a tasteless or violent TV show becomes popular, some people wonder if society has lost its sense of decency. Asking "Have you no decency?" is a serious question, unless you're being silly and complaining about something like homework.

Decency also means honorableness by virtue of being respectable and having a good reputation. Same thing it's always meant: respecting other people's rights. Don't threaten/hit (assault/battery) other people, don't take or trespass on their property, and don’t stop them from doing things that don't harm others

In today's society, basic human decency means

  • Wearing clean, homely clothes daily (Having a foul mouth is fine),
  • If you're a man, not looking at women even accidentally. If you're a woman, not tolerating fleeting glances.
  • Never poking your nose in other's affairs (Even if what you're witnessing is injustice).
  • Not making fun of the poor (Making fun of the rich is totally fine).
  • If you're a woman, not talking of sex (Totally acceptable if you're male, though).
  • Preaching about not torturing animals (Oh, but you can kill and eat them right.
  • Not joining politics (Talking about how pathetic politicians are and that we need good politicians is acceptable).

Why do we need to be decent?
Faith in God involves more than leading a decent life. It is thankfully possible to lead a decent life without faith in God, although we should have no illusions about how low human beings can sink. We believe that our sense of right and wrong, our sense of justice and our love for other people come ultimately from God.

This sense may have evolved along with our species (for example close-knit communities have a better chance of survival), but it originates with God. And only by responding to God’s call, and with His help, can we become the best people we can be. On the other hand, if we consciously turn our backs on God, we are left with our limited and selfish selves. Unfortunately, this is exactly what is often happening: so much of our world has turned its back on God and is as a result materialistic and self-seeking.

I tell you, Decency is an attitude we as humans must possess in order to make the world a better place. Decency is not religion, it exists even before religion. No one is preaching here but calling our minds to
